The Opal Dragon is a revised version requested by Mark Evans, a movie producer from Adelaide. He expressed a desire to highlight one of the local thieves in the narrative.
The protagonist, Ali the Dragon, is a petty pimp and thief operating in the local market. He steals a bag filled with cash and jewellery, subsequently becoming involved in the local drug trade. Upon learning that the local mafia plans to drown him and his mother with chains attached to their legs, he decides to leave the Philippines. Before departing for Australia, he kills a mafia boss.
In Australia, he discovers the opal industry and collaborates with local opal thieves to acquire their gemstones. The characters from Opal Eggs of Fire appear in a style reminiscent of Bryce Courtenay, where two conflicting characters encounter each other throughout the story.
